Hello there! And welcome to Revel of the Wolff!

This is my first official attempt at a blog; the place of my (you guessed it) revelries, where I revel in the intricacies of life: the beautiful, the exciting, the mundane and potentially boring (hopefully not) and all of the things in between. I’m going to share it all with you and maybe teach you a few things along the way. I’m going to share recipes when I find or make great ones, I’ll share art projects and patterns with you, home and cleaning experiments and ideas, and pretty much anything else I think is worth sharing! I’m looking forward to sharing this all with you, my lovely readers (If I actually have some haha), and I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

So where does one begin? I think the best place to start with would be now. Today. (Which really is more of a when than a where…)

There really hasn’t been anything particularly interesting or wowing today, but I’ve enjoyed it nonetheless. The morning started with this beautiful blanket of fog, which I love because it just lends this atmosphere that I find both mysterious and comforting…


Isn’t it beautiful? And yes I know I shouldn’t be taking pictures while driving…Whoops! Fog makes me feel like I’m wrapped up in one of my cool, down blankets drinking a nice steaming mug of tea – the kind where you blow on it and the steamy moisture wafts up into your face. I also love tea, by the way!

Pink Tea!!

I actually signed up for a loose-leaf tea monthly delivery box – Tea Runners (created by the wonderful Jewel Staite and her husband Charlie – Firefly fans, yes that would be Kaylee!) – and I couldn’t be more happy with it! It’s like getting a present in the mail that I just happened to order for myself (who doesn’t love that?) and bonus the teas are AMAZING! I highly recommend them! The Peach Ginger Detox Tea, Winter Wonderland Rooibos and the Black Masala are just a few of my faves!

Anyways, tea rant aside, it was a pretty lovely morning! I even saw a cute little rabbit outside my work when I went out to get the mail, chilling with a chipmunk and giving me the eye. I used to leave them random gifts of veggies back when I worked down by the front desk (didn’t have any hay handy- surprise there), so I like to think that I have a sort of Hey we both work here kind of kinship with the little FluffBall. Needless to say, it kind of made my day to see them.


Now, I’ve talked about the flora and the fauna – yes, tea counts as flora in my book – so last but not least why don’t we chat a little about food? I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with food in that I’m always trying to find something new so that I don’t get bored with it. In the past I’d had a lot of problems with hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which is a nightmare, and I’ve since learned that for myself I need to eat probably six small meals/snacks in a day to keep it level. Stress was also a major contributor to it – I was working in retail, which I loathed entirely even if I do think that everyone should have to do it for a year just to know what it’s like, but I had been there for a decade and I was just so completely done with it. It is amazing how mean people can be to retail workers! 

Anyways, now that I have to eat frequently it makes it so easy to get bored with what I’m eating, especially since I make all of my meals on Sundays and eat the same things for lunch every day. Supper I will make a couple of different things for, but I admittedly don’t have the patience or fridge space to give a lot of variety to lunch. (Dang tiny apartment fridges!!) So of course I need to make sure that whatever I make is something that I’m going to want to eat for 5-6 days straight and that’s kind of a hard thing to do, ya know?

This week though was a success! It was so wonderfully yummy and such a great comfort food!

This week I made Beef Bulgogi! The literal translation is fire meat– and for those of you who aren’t familiar with Korean food it’s amazing! It’s thin strips of beef marinated in this awesome combination of soy sauce, onion, garlic and asian pear and a few other things besides – then traditionally I believe it’s grilled – but I don’t have a grill so I cooked mine in a pan until the sauce was deliciously sticky! Served over rice and paired with a halved Korean-braised egg, some quick pickles and a dollop of spicy mayo, and you’ve got a seriously great lunch! It was sweet, savory, creamy from the egg and mayo, and just all around satisfying!

I know it might sound weird to some of you to put mayo in a rice dish, but it really makes this creamy, and the sriracha in the mayo gives it a flavorful little kick of spice. If you’re really weirded out by the idea or just really don’t like anything spicy (my husband doesn’t care for spicy food, so I know how that can be) then maybe just nix it, or try a little bit in it at first. Honestly, this is good even without the spicy mayo.

This was the Bulgogi recipe that I used, from Little Spice Jar – I doubled the recipe so I could stretch it out over the week and still have some for my husband, cuz you know he deserves good food too, but he typically needs more food than I do so anything I make him doesn’t last long. He usually ends up fending for himself. Haha! Poor boy…

The Korean Braised Eggs recipe I found over at My Korean Kitchen – I absolutely love these and will gobble them up all by themselves, and that’s coming from a girl who usually can’t stand whole boiled eggs! They are scrumptious!

The spicy mayo you can buy at most grocery stores now, or you can just do what I did and mix mayo with Sriracha to taste. That way you can control the level of spice.

The Quick Pickles are a recipe of mine – I’ve tried several recipes and just wasn’t quite satisfied with them, so I put this one together to share – Let me know what you think of it if you try it! They have a little bit of a kick and dang it if I don’t eat half of them the same day I make them!



  • 1 English Cucumber (I cut off the ends, cut it in half lengthwise, gut out the gooey middle, and then cut it into bite-sized matchstick pieces)
  • 1 Clove Garlic, diced
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Sesame Oil
  • 2 Tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 6 Tbsp Water
  • 6 Tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1 Tbsp Sugar


  • Put the matchstick-cut Cucumber in a jar it will fit in -mine was a 32 oz.
  • Combine the remaining ingredients and pour over the pickles.
  • Refrigerate for at least an hour before eating.
  • Enjoy!
